First, disconnect the blue Cisco USB console cable. Reinstall the Cisco USB console drive using setup(x64).exe from the Windows_64 folder which was extracted from file Cisco_usbconsole_driver_3_1.zip.
You can get this driver from the Cisco website or install it manually on another PC. Then, simply connect the USB console port to your PC and follow the installation instructions. You may need to change the COM port if your PC is using a different one.
To install this driver, go to the Cisco website and download the file. Make sure to have a USB-A to Mini-B cable. Also, you need a fat16 drive. You may also need to modify your terminal emulator software to recognize the file.
To connect to the Cisco switch via a serial cable, you will need to purchase a USB-Serial Adapter. After installing the software, you can connect the Cisco switch to your computer using the console cable.
In the list, the console cable should be the last option. Once this is done, you can start running the regular Cisco commands. To disconnect from the terminal session, press Ctrl-a followed by Ctrl-d.
The Prolific 2303 linux chip driver pl2303 works here since over a decade. I have been using this particular Serial-to-USB cable on various operating systems. But I never had the time and a opportunity to configure a USB-A to USB Mini-B cable for serial connection for Cisco components. The testswitch used here a Catalyst 3650 series.
This workstation is using a customised slim kernel, most drivers are missing in the linux kernel configuration. The workstation des not need them. The linux kernel uses the USB CDC ACM drivers to be able to connect to the Ciscos USB console. Since this particular connection is not a real serial connection, it needs specific linux kernel drivers to work with switch's USB mini-B console port. A real serial connection on both ends with an RS-232 connector does not need any additional drivers.

Its all news news to me as thought I was buying a advertised genuine cisco console cableso hard to beleive they would fake such a cheap product but guess theyre selling billions of them part of the reason I posting this experience for others to learn and find a solution
jb206 gave you a good hint. And it must be specifically for win10. I know you wanted RJ45 console to USB.. but a working USB to serial plus genuine Cisco rollover cable is going to be a heck of lot more dependable.
For operation with Microsoft Windows, the Cisco Windows USB console driver must be installed on any PC connected to the console port. With this driver, you can plug and unplug the USB cable into and from the console port without affecting Windows HyperTerminal operations.
Note2: Only one console port can be active at a time. When a cable is plugged into the USB console port, the RJ-45 port becomes inactive. Conversely, when the USB cable is removed from the USB port, the RJ-45 port becomes active.
The USB driver is mapped to COMport 6. Some terminal emulation programs do not recognize a port higher than COM 4. If necessary, you must change the Cisco USB systems management console COM port to an unused port of COM 4 or lower.
Newer Cisco switches and routers have the ability to connect to the console port with an USB cable. The RJ45 is still there, no need to worry about that yet. To connect you need a cable that has a male type A to a male mini B contact. See the picture below:
The file is a zip, download it to somewhere and then unzip the file. You will have a few different folders depending on what operating system you run. I used the setup file from the Windows_32 folder. This will install the software. When you insert the USB cable into your computer Windows will detect it and install the driver. Hello.I am working on my CCENT.I purchased 4 devices from a company and I am having some difficulty accessing the console.I have the cisco console cable, I have a serial to usb adapter (tera grand, ftdi chipset) that is compatible with windows 10. And I am using putty.I have attempt several times to connect using the correct comm port and settings (9600, 1, n, n).If I connect to the device and then power on the switch (cisco catalys 2960) I will see gibberish on the screen. If I close and reopen putty, all I have is a black screen with green cursor.there is no reaction to any keystrokes pressed.I started to think maybe the IOS is corrupted, but I am unable to download IOS from cisco as i do not have a business email address.Any ideas? help? Suggestions?
Like several others have stated try using a different usb-serial converter, if you don't have available and the CISCOs are of the newer variety and have the mini-usb console port try using an old usb - mini-usb cable and install the CISCO usb console driver. Just my few cents worth!

David, thanks for the response, I should start at the beginning, I have an older Cables 2 Go USB2Serial cable and my research indicated that the driver I needed was this one. It works on a windows PC but since I use a MAC most of the time I was trying to get it to work. However, I have since ordered a plugable adapter and I think it should be here today and I am sure that will solve my problem. I will keep you posted.
